You are a licensed doctor

If you’re already a licensed doctor in your home country, Grenoble Alpes University Hospital offers several training possibilities. Your status will depend on the length of your stay and your objectives.

Visitor

You want to come to Grenoble University Hospital for a few days (for instance to observe a specific technique). Following your visit, you might get a certificate of visit delivered.
Please contact directly the clinical department you want to visit to get its agreement about the visit and define together the objective of the visit.
For a visit lasting only a few days, there is no need to sign an agreement with Grenoble Alpes University Hospital.

Visiting doctor

You come to the University Hospital for a short period (from a few weeks up to 3 months maximum). You will have the observer status, so you will not be able to take charge of the patients yourself or perform technical procedures. You will not be paid by the CHU Grenoble Alpes.
After the training, you can ask for a certificate of attendance delivered by the clinical department.
You must directly contact the clinical department where you wish to do your internship, to obtain their agreement.
Once you have obtained the agreement by email from the head of the department, you must send it to the secretariat of the International Affairs Department of Grenoble University Hospital : relationsinternationales@chu-grenoble.fr

Stagiaires associés

You come to the University Hospital to improve your skills or to learn a new technique. This internship can last 6 months and is renewable once.
You will be paid by Grenoble Alpes University Hospital and you will have the same prerogatives as a French intern. You will get a certificate of attendance following the training but the training does not enable to get a degree. As a “stagiaire associé”, you will not be able to enroll in university.
This status is only accessible to professionals demonstrating a high level of proficiency in French (level B2). Since “stagiaires associés” are getting paid by Grenoble Alpes University Hospital, the possibilities of getting this status are very limited.
You must first contact the clinical department where you want to do your internship to find out if they have the possibility to host you. If this is the case, the service will then put you in contact with the Department of Medical Affairs to initiate the recruitment process.

DFMS / DFMSA - Diploma of specialized (or in-depth specialized) medical training

These degree trainings are exclusively for professionals from countries outside the European Union. This status allows you to train at CHU Grenoble Alpes, as a student, in a medical or surgical specialty, for a period ranging from 6 months to 3 years. You will be paid by the CHU Grenoble Alpes and will be able to practice with the same prerogatives as a French intern. This status is only accessible to professionals demonstrating a high level of proficiency in French (level B2)
The placement of the DFMS-DFMSA is done at the national level and is coordinated by the University of Strasbourg. Each year, all French University Hospitals (including Grenoble) declare, for each specialty, whether or not they open a position for a DFMS / DFMSA. To be sure to come to Grenoble Alpes University Hospital, make sure to position it as your first wish.
